TPM Episode 482: The 420 Episode

TPM Episode 482: The 420 Episode

The 420 Episode is a collection of true stories from myself, friends, and athletes that I think you'll find entertaining.  I’ve never done a proper 4/20 episode before, and I wanted to make sure I got one in before I end this podcast.  So, this week you get a different episode. It’s the 420 episode, the weed episode, the cannabis episode, the marijuana episode. If you have kids, maybe have them skip this podcast. But if you like to laugh, tune in.  Some names have been changed to protect identity and image.

TPM EPISODE 479: JOSH MALCZYK PART 2

TPM EPISODE 479: JOSH MALCZYK PART 2

Josh Malczyk is the Global Brand Director for K2 and Line Skis, he’s a good friend, and a guy I saw go from the bottom of the barrel of ski marketing with a niche brand, to the top of the food chain directing one of the industry’s most iconic brands....From the core skier wearing Tall T’s to the collared shirt wearing brand guy. It’s fun to see friends grow up/move up and last time I talked with Josh on the podcast, he was secretly on his way out of Line Skis for the first time. On part 2, we talk about leaving his job, Season Equipment, coming back to Elevate Outdoor Collective, how K2 became a boot company, and how to bring K2 Skis back.

TPM EPISODE 477: KEVIN QUINN

TPM EPISODE 477: KEVIN QUINN

Kevin Quinn, the founder of Points North Heli and a true Alaska pioneer, has done more rad stuff than almost anyone I’ve had on the podcast. He went from pro hockey player, to ski instructor, to pro skier, to entrepreneur, to famous pilot, to coach, and that’s just some of what Kevin has done. He also did time in Tahoe with folks like Kreitler, McConkey and so many more; when life was all about shredding, jumping off things and shenanigans. But Kevin didn’t ski bum forever though, he started a heli ski business- with no idea how to manage the books, then he figured it out without going bankrupt, and eventually, lived the American Heli Ski dream life. Not too bad for a kid that dropped out of high school and made a name for himself in team sports by using his fists.

TPM EPISODE 476: CASSIE ABEL

Cassie Abel had a different road than most to the ski industry. While her peers spent as much time as possible on snow, Cassie was winning 4 State Championships in HS before her Hall of Fame collegiate career. After a stint of a 9-5 lifestyle, Cassie got sucked into the ski industry, first with resort marketing, and then on the brand side with Smith.  But when her dream job left town, Cassie stayed back in Sun Valley, started a PR agency,  eventually jumped into entrepreneurship with her Ski and Mountain Bike start up, Wild Rye. This is fun episode with a passionate, tenacious, awesome person.  Maro LeBlance asks the Inappropriate Questions.

TPM EPIOSDE 465: SID PATTISON

Sid Pattison is a heli ski guide,  an Everest veteran, and an all around badass,  but what makes Sid different is who he is. TPM EPISODE 464: SEATTLE TO JACKSON

TPM EPISODE 464: SEATTLE TO JACKSON

Seattle and Jackson Hole are the focus of this different Christmas episode.  In Seattle, I checked out “The Common Line” snowboard event (which was incredible!!) and I talked to a few legends who stand sideways. After that, I caught up with skier and recent avalanche survivor, Adam U, before he played a punk rock show with his band Krontonamo. A couple days later, I traveled to Jackson Hole with the Outside Life crew to emcee an event and while I was there, I caught up with some forward-facing legends.  It’s a different episode that I think you’ll like.

EPISODE 449: KIMMY FASANI

Kimmy Fasani is a trailblazing snowboarder who, not by choice, made a huge difference in women’s sports.  Kimmy went from “Rider of the Year” to becoming a mom and when we last podcasted, the theme was, “will my sponsors stick by me?”. They did, but really, keeping sponsors is the last of Kimmy’s life worries.  Between losing her parents to cancer, to having cancer, to so many other things, Kimmy’s life is not close to as easy as it looks and this podcast and her movie “Butterfly in a Blizzard” give a real look into what it’s like to have the best of times and the worst of times. EPISODE 444: THE BEST OF INAPPROPRATE QUESTIONS 2025

EPISODE 444: THE BEST OF INAPPROPRATE QUESTIONS 2025

Inappropriate Questions is how I end every show. The idea is that I find a friend of my guest and record 3 questions with them. The questions can be anything that gets the guest to tell a funny, crazy, embarrassing or really, any good story. The goal is to get some gold without pissing off the guest when I surprise them with the questions. This week, I have a long list of legends on this highlight show.  Think Shannon Dunn, Tina Basich, Andy Hetzel, Colby Stevensen, Dane Tudor, Peter Olenick and many more. This is a fan favorite segment of the show, and this is some of the best of them.

EPISODE 431: CHARLIE HOCH

Charlie Hoch is a former pro snowboarder turned cannabis entrepreneur, which makes him the perfect guest for 420 week. When I say pro snowboarder, while Charlie competed amongst the likes of Travis Rice and was on the podium at some big events, his snowboard career won’t be what defines his existence; his success in the cannabis world will be. From developing the original ice bong to building his 100+ SKU empire today, Charlie could use snowboarding instead of having it the other way around, and on the podcast, we talk snowboarding, weed, and more.

Alex Deibold is an Olympic medalist with over 100 World Cup starts under his belt. Alex’s success began at the Stratton Mountain School, and then he made the US Team at 18.  While he was on the team, he never totally fit in. The world of snowboarding had a “high school” style popularity system and the fact that he liked the gym and working hard earned him the dreaded jock label is the sea of cool guys. But regardless of the lack of funding, sponsors, or fanfare, Alex was able to make the dream happen. It’s a fun episode, and Nate Holland asks the Inappropriate Questions.

EPISODE 424: AMY BUCKALTER

EPISODE 424: AMY BUCKALTER

Amy Buckalter is a boss. One of those smart people, who have that thing, where you know they understand how business works and how to amplify. She's also unapologetically herself, wearing pantsuits while refining the sales strategies of action sports brands like Burton and K2. But her resume goes way deeper than that, think Converse, Terramar, Ryka, Nike, Yakima Pivot Point, and today, she's the founder and CEO of Pulse, a personal lubrication system with over 105 patents. So I guess you can say she's gone from sports to sex and while there are a lot of ins and outs to her life and times, Amy's managed to stay on top and achieve success at every step along the way. It's an interesting podcast with my first boss.

EPISODE 419: NICK BAUMGARTNER

EPISODE 419: NICK BAUMGARTNER

Nick Baumgartner’s life is the definition of never out-working everyone and giving up. This product of northern Michigan grew up with a traditional ”Yooper” work ethic and an enthusiasm you can’t coach. While Nick’s original passion was football and he played at the collegiate level, that didn't last and snowboarding took over. While he started with slopestyle, Nick became a force on the boardercross circuit and had to battle through four Olympics before he finally earned his Gold Medal. It's an incredible story, and US Snowboard Teammate Jonathan Cheever asks Inappropriate Questions.

EPISODE 391: TOMMY CZESCHIN

EPISODE 391: TOMMY CZESCHIN

Tommy Czeschin was born into a life of mountains and lakes, so it’s no surprise that he loves snowboarding and water sports-but what’s shocking is that he was able to go pro in both. Not too bad for the quiet kid with talent who started ski racing and was the forerunner for the Jr Olympics before seeing snowboarding and making the switch. Within 5 years, he was traveling the world with the US Snowboard Team, standing on the top of World Cup podiums, winning X Games medals, and eventually making the 2002 Olympic Team.  After his snowboarding, he was an early adopter of wake surfing and these days, he gets paid to ride behind a boat among other things. It’s kind of like Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, or a Shaun White-type story, only different. Don Wallace asks the “Inappropriate Questions.”

EPISODE 390: RED GERARD

Red Gerard has won every slopestyle event out there: The Olympics, X Games, Dew Tour, World Cups, Grand Prix, you get the idea and Red is only 23 years old. While his life will be defined by his Olympic Gold, Red’s snowboarding career isn’t all about contests. He’s just as comfortable taking his trick vocabulary to the backcountry and laying it down for his film segments. The beauty of Red is that while he’s young, he’s also kind of throwback. A kid who takes pride in competing, filming, and having a good time off the hill…On the podcast we talk about coming up in a big family, snowboarding, getting screwed by judges, sponsorship, contests and so much more. While Lucas Foster is not a one-trick pony, when he landed his Alley Oop Double McTwist in the pipe,  his career and his life totally changed forever.  What’s crazy is that Lucas grew up in Telluride, a place without a halfpipe, meaning Lucas came up learning his tricks at contests with barely any practice.  Nowadays, Lucas has all the resources available to up the ante even more as he’s a member of the US Snowboard Team, and at just 24, who knows what he’ll add to his bag of tricks. On the podcast, we talk about his goal of being the GOAT, mentoring from Jason Cannon, contests, coaching, and more. Louie Vito asks “Inappropriate Questions”

EPISODE 382: ZACH MILLER

EPISODE 382: ZACH MILLER

Zach Miller is different than any World Champion I’ve had on the podcast. While he appears to be able-bodied, Zach has Cerebral Palsy, a neurological disorder that affects his mobility, posture, and balance. Zach found snowboarding through a hospital program, and that changed his life. Today, Zach is a Paralympian who travels the world to snowboard. On the podcast, we talk about CP and everything that goes along with it, including fatigue, challenges, and bullying. We also talk about competing against adaptive athletes while he looks able-bodied and the challenges that created. And, of course, we discuss money or complete lack thereof it, the Paralympics, and a whole lot more. It’s a different and important episode that everyone should hear.
